ABSTRACT.

This project details the realization of a road drainage design for the Fundo el Carmen - Labranza section, located in Temuco, Araucanía region, Chile, with the purpose of satisfying and providing water drainage of rain that meets the necessary requirements of operation and functionality for the express way under study. The application of different methods for the design of road drainage throughout the entire section under study is presented, considering necessary design parameters as stipulated by the Road Manual volume 3, Urban Drainage Manual ( MOP) of Chile and what is proposed by the Code of Standards and Technical Specifications for Paving Works (MINVU), all based on the characteristics of the road, the climatic conditions of the area and of the terrain, which determines its design. For the design of the drainage system, two methodologies were used; (i) Rational method and (ii) the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) Method, which relate characteristics of the place under study, storm intensities with respect to a return period and coefficients of runoff characteristics of the soil. With this, the parameters defined in the drainage works to be implemented are obtained. The design carried out contemplated a Hydrological study for the estimates of rain intensities, was defined for the longitudinal section of 2 years, for the section cross section of 50 years and for drainage works greater than 100 years, with intensities of 121 /ℎ and 221 /ℎ , 252 /ℎ respectively. In addition, using the QGIS Software, the contributing areas of the influential basins of the section and the runoff coefficients referring to the terrain were determined, with which the dimensions of the trapezoidal, circular, rectangular sections and major drainage works were defined. bridge, used for the road drainage system.
